West Misses First Workout of Training Camp

Embattled Cleveland Cavaliers guard Delonte West did not participate in the Cavaliers’ first workout of training camp at Cleveland Clinic Courts on Tuesday, and head coach Mike Brown did not know whether West would be attending the evening session.

West was recently arrested for gun possession in Maryland after police pulled his three-wheel motorcycle over for a traffic violation. They discovered a violation of a much more serious kind – West was carrying two loaded handguns and a shotgun in a guitar case he had on his back.

West was charged with two counts of possessing a concealed handgun, a misdemeanor in Maryland. He is due in court on November 20.

On the Cavaliers’ media day on Monday, West downplayed his recent legal troubles, saying that once the details were known, “you’ll see that it’s not as big as some are making it.”

Coach Brown said that GM Danny Ferry was handling the missed practice.

“On a personal note, you always hope he’s doing well,” Brown said of West. “But I have to continue looking forward and coaching this team. Whether it is Delonte or somebody else, if they miss practice and it is unexcused it will be handled internally.”

West enjoyed his best all-around season last year, averaging 11.2 points, 3.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists last season and shooting a career-high 40 percent from behind the three-point line.

West arrested on gun charges

Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Delonte West was arrested on gun charges after being pulled over for cutting off a police officer.

West was on his motorcyle on I-495 (Capital Beltway) outside of Washington, D.C. when he cut in front of a cop.

The officer pulled West over and found three guns in his possession, including one in a guitar case slung over his shoulder.

West was arrested and later released on his own recognizance, and the Cavaliers are looking into the matter.

This is a very strange story, and you have to wonder why in the world he needed all of those guns.

LeBron set to test free agency

Despite saying he would like to stay in Cleveland, it is becoming obvious that LeBron James intends to test free agency.

This upcoming season will be the last that James is under contract with the Cavaliers, which is causing mass panic in Cleveland.

There is little doubt that James will become the highest paid player in NBA history when he hits the free agent market. It’s only a matter of how much he will make and where he will choose to go. I really doubt he winds up in Cleveland, although he does seem to be a loyal guy.

I just think the lure of New York or a team with much better pieces around him will be too much to keep him in Cleveland.
